The experience offers a profound sense of accomplishment and breathtaking panoramic views from the highest point in Iran.
Your Damavand adventure begins with a warm welcome from your expert trekking guide, who will pick you up from your accommodation. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on a scenic 3-hour drive (approximately 100 km) from Tehran to the charming village of Rineh, nestled at an altitude of 2200 meters. Located just east of Tehran, this small village is our gateway to the mountain. Upon arrival, we’ll have a homemade lunch at a local guest house, where you can also leave any extra luggage.
After gathering necessary supplies, we’ll head to the Southern Basecamp of Mount Damavand, Goosfandsara (3100m), a 45-minute drive by SUV. This area, once used by local shepherds, is now a popular starting point for trekkers. At around 4 PM, we’ll start our acclimatization trek, ascending to 3700 meters in approximately two hours. Afterwards, we’ll return to Goosfandsara for dinner and rest in private tents or a cosy room—whichever you prefer.
Day two begins bright and early. After breakfast, we’ll pack our bags and hand them off to porters before starting our 4-hour trek to Bargah-e Sevom Hut (4200m), following a straightforward trekking route. Once we arrive at the hut, we’ll settle in, have a light lunch to acclimate better to the elevation and hydrate well. Around 3 PM, we’ll set out for our second acclimatization hike, which will take us up to 4700 meters over two hours, with an hour-long descent back to the hut.
Dinner will be served at 7 PM, with a focus on carbohydrate-rich foods like pasta to fuel up for the next day’s challenge. Afterwards, we’ll turn in early for a much-needed rest, as we’ll be rising at 5 AM the next day.
Summit day has finally arrived! We’ll begin at 4 AM with a light breakfast, departing from the hut by 5 AM to conquer Mount Damavand, the highest peak in Iran and the Middle East. The trek takes approximately six hours, covering an elevation gain of 1460 meters.
The trail starts along the mountain’s right ridge, passing by Abshar-e Yakhi (Icefall) before continuing to the left toward the famous triangular rock at 5350 meters. Here, you’ll encounter sulfuric hills—a sign that the summit is near.
In less than an hour, you’ll stand on Damavand’s breathtaking peak, where you can admire the panoramic views. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of the Caspian Sea and the Alborz Mountain Range.
After taking in the magnificent views and capturing some memories with photos, we’ll begin our descent around noon. We’ll return to Bargah-e Sevom for a brief rest and meal, then continue down to Goosfandsara, a journey that takes about two hours.
From there, we’ll drive back to Rineh village by SUV. To round off the day, we’ll unwind in Larijan’s famous hot spring pools, followed by a delicious lamb kebab dinner.
After a restful night, we’ll enjoy a leisurely morning, starting with breakfast at 10 AM. Once packed, we’ll leave Rineh at 11 AM, arriving back in Tehran within two hours. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or a location of your choice. If desired, we can also arrange an additional Tehran sightseeing tour on this day.
